Located close to the Carré theatre in Amsterdam, the skinny bridge crosses the river Amstel. It is an old wooden bridge also known as a double-swipe bridge or balanced bridge. The bridge now a days is a wider version of what it was back in it’s former days of glory when it was used as a pedestrian crossing. In 1871 it was replaced as traffic continually increased along the Amstel
Frequently photographed, the skinny bridge is not the only bridge of it’s type in Amsterdam. similar bridges can be found at at the Staalstraat/Grimburgwal, Nieuve Herengracht, Rapenburg, Prinseneiland and Bickerseiland
